How Much Is a 14K Gold Bracelet Worth? Value by Weight, Style and Where You Sell It

How Much Is a 14K Gold Bracelet Worth (2026 Price Guide)

At the gold price of about $4,013 per ounce on October 27, 2026, 14K gold is worth about $75 per gram. A 5-gram 14K bracelet therefore contains about $376 of gold, a 10-gram bracelet about $752, and a 20-gram bracelet about $1,504. Gold buyers typically pay 60–90% of that melt value. Diamonds, designer names and craftsmanship can raise a bracelet’s resale value above its gold content.

A bracelet’s value has two parts: the gold it contains, which depends on weight, karat and the daily gold price, and everything else, such as stones, brand, design and condition. This guide shows how to calculate the gold value, gives a current chart by weight and by bracelet style, explains how stamps and plating affect value, and sets out what different buyers pay and how to sell safely.

How to Calculate the Value of a 14K Gold Bracelet

The Melt Value Formula

The gold value of any 14K bracelet is calculated from three numbers: its weight in grams, its gold fraction, and the price of pure gold per gram.

Melt value = bracelet weight (g) × 0.583 × price of pure gold per gram

The figure 0.583 comes from the karat system. Pure gold is 24 karat, so 14 karat gold contains 14 parts gold out of 24, or 58.3%. Gold is priced per troy ounce, so the ounce price is first divided by 31.1035, the number of grams in a troy ounce.

Worked Example

At $4,013 per troy ounce, pure gold is worth $4,013 ÷ 31.1035 = $129.02 per gram. A 12-gram 14K bracelet contains 12 × 0.583 = 7.0 grams of pure gold. Multiplying 7.0 grams by $129.02 gives a melt value of about $903. The shorter method multiplies the bracelet’s weight by the 14K price per gram: 12 × $75.22 = $903.

Grams, Pennyweights and Troy Ounces

Jewelers and gold buyers use three units. A troy ounce is 31.1035 grams and is the unit used for gold market prices. A pennyweight (dwt) is 1.555 grams and is common in the US jewelry trade. A gram is the unit most kitchen and jewelry scales display. A bracelet weighed at 4 dwt therefore weighs about 6.2 grams. Ordinary (avoirdupois) ounces, at 28.35 grams, are not used for gold.

How Much Does a 14K Gold Bracelet Weigh?

Bracelet weight varies with style, link size, length and construction. Two bracelets of the same length and style can differ in weight by several grams.

Bracelet styleTypical weightTypical melt value
Fine box, rope or cable chain2–5 g$150–$376
Curb or Figaro link5–12 g$376–$903
Cuban link10–25 g$752–$1,881
Solid bangle8–20 g$602–$1,504
Tennis bracelet (gold only, stones excluded)4–10 g$301–$752

These ranges are typical for adult 7-inch bracelets. Weighing the bracelet on a scale that reads to 0.1 gram gives an exact figure.

Solid vs Hollow Bracelets

Hollow bracelets and bangles are made with an empty space inside the links or tube. They look as large as solid pieces but weigh much less, so they contain less gold. A hollow bangle may weigh half as much as a solid bangle of the same size. Hollow pieces also dent more easily, and dents reduce resale appeal, though not melt value. Weight, not appearance, determines gold content.

Bracelets With Diamonds or Gemstones

Stones add weight to a bracelet without adding gold. Before calculating melt value for a tennis bracelet or a bracelet with set stones, the stone weight is subtracted from the total. One carat equals 200 milligrams, or 0.2 gram, as the Gemological Institute of America explains in its guide to the 4Cs. A tennis bracelet listed as 5 carats total weight therefore contains 1 gram of diamonds, and a 9-gram bracelet with 5 carats of diamonds contains about 8 grams of gold alloy. The diamonds themselves are valued separately based on their cut, color, clarity and carat weight.

14K vs 10K vs 18K: Value per Gram

Higher karat gold contains more pure gold and is worth more per gram.

KaratGold contentValue per gram (at $4,013/oz)10 g bracelet melt value
10K41.7%$53.80$538
14K58.3%$75.22$752
18K75.0%$96.77$968
22K91.7%$118.27$1,183
24K100%$129.02$1,290

The Gemological Institute of America’s guide to gold karats explains that lower-karat gold is generally more durable and higher-karat gold is softer. The color of the gold does not change its gold content: a 14K yellow, white or rose gold bracelet of the same weight contains the same amount of gold.

What Does 14K Mean on a Bracelet?

14K vs 585

A bracelet stamped “14K”, “14KT” or “585” indicates 14-karat gold. The stamp “585” expresses fineness in parts per thousand (58.5%), a figure slightly above the exact 14/24 ratio of 58.3%. The stamp is usually found on the clasp, on a small tag next to the clasp, or inside a bangle.

Legal Tolerance on a 14K Stamp

In the United States, the National Gold and Silver Stamping Act limits how far a gold article can fall short of its stamp. Under 15 U.S.C. §295, the actual fineness of a gold article may be lower than the stamped fineness by no more than three parts per thousand, or seven parts per thousand when solder is included in the assay. A genuine 14K bracelet is therefore very close to 58.3% gold.

Solid 14K vs Gold-Filled vs Gold-Plated (14KGP)

The stamp also shows whether a bracelet is solid gold or only coated with gold. The FTC’s Jewelry Guides, §23.3, set out how gold content is described, and require gold-filled and gold-plated products to be identified as such rather than as solid gold.

MarkingMeaningGold value
14K, 14KT, 585Solid 14-karat gold throughoutFull melt value
1/20 14K GF, 14K GFGold-filled: a layer of 14K gold bonded to a base metalA small fraction of solid gold
14KGP, GP, HGE, GEPGold-plated or electroplated: a thin gold layer over another metalLittle or no scrap value

A bracelet that feels unusually light for its size, attracts a magnet along its links, or shows a different color where it is worn may be plated or filled despite a “14K” mark. The home checks in how to tell if a ring is real gold and how to tell if a necklace is real gold apply to bracelets as well, and a jeweler can confirm the karat with an acid test or an XRF scanner.

What Increases a Bracelet’s Value Above Melt?

Melt value is the minimum a solid 14K bracelet is worth as metal. Several factors can raise its resale value above that figure.

Diamonds and gemstones are valued separately from the gold, and on tennis bracelets they often account for most of the value. Designer or brand names from recognized makers sell above melt on the secondary market. Craftsmanship such as hand-made links, engraving, filigree or complex chain construction adds value for buyers who want to wear the piece rather than melt it. Condition matters for resale: an intact clasp, unstretched links and an undented surface sell for more. Age and provenance, for example signed antique pieces, can attract collectors.

None of these factors change melt value, which depends only on weight, karat and the gold price.

Melt Value, Payout, Resale and Insurance Value

A single bracelet has several different values depending on the purpose.

Value typeDefinitionRelation to melt value
Melt valueThe gold content at the current price100%
Buyer payoutThe amount a gold buyer offers for scrapTypically 60–90%
Resale valueThe amount another buyer pays for the bracelet itselfAround melt for plain pieces; higher for designer or gem-set pieces
Retail priceThe price of a comparable new bracelet in a storeUsually well above melt
Insurance valueThe cost to replace the bracelet new, set by an appraiserUsually close to retail

For insurance, an independent appraiser provides a written valuation describing the metal, weight, dimensions and any stones. Because gold prices change, appraisals are updated every few years.

How Much Will a Buyer Pay for a 14K Gold Bracelet?

Gold buyers pay a percentage of melt value to cover testing, refining and profit. The percentage varies by buyer type.

Where you sellTypical payoutNotes
Pawn shopAbout 50–70% of meltFast; usually the lowest offer
Local jewelerAbout 60–80% of meltOffers vary widely
Dedicated gold buyer or refinerAbout 70–90% of meltUsually the highest scrap price
Mail-in buyerVaries widelyShipping risk; offers vary
Private saleMelt or aboveSlower; safety precautions needed

These percentages are typical industry ranges, not fixed rates. A 10-gram bracelet with a melt value of $752 earns about $526 at a 70% payout and about $677 at a 90% payout, a difference of $151 on the same piece.

How to Sell a 14K Gold Bracelet for a Fair Price

Preparing before visiting a buyer establishes a benchmark for every offer. Confirm the stamp first, then weigh the bracelet on a scale that reads to 0.1 gram and record the weight. Calculate the melt value using the current gold price and the chart above. If the bracelet has stones, estimate their weight and subtract it, and ask each buyer whether the stones are being valued or ignored.

Getting quotes from at least three buyers shows the range of offers. Asking each buyer what percentage of melt value they pay, and asking them to weigh the bracelet in front of you, makes offers directly comparable. Keeping the receipt, which lists weight, karat and price paid, provides a record of the sale.

Consumer Protections When Selling Gold

Some local governments regulate gold buyers. New York City’s Department of Consumer Affairs, for example, advises sellers to use licensed buyers, to have items weighed in full view, and to be cautious about “cash for gold” parties, and notes that gold buyers in the city must hold purchased items for 15 days before reselling them. Rules vary by city and state, so checking local licensing requirements identifies legitimate buyers.

Mail-In Gold Buyers

The Federal Trade Commission has testified to Congress that it receives complaints from consumers who sell jewelry and precious metals to online buyers. Sellers using mail-in services can photograph and weigh items before shipping, insure the package for its full value, and confirm that the buyer will return the item at no cost if the offer is declined.

Is Tax Due When You Sell a Gold Bracelet?

Tax depends on whether the sale produces a gain. The Internal Revenue Service treats precious metals and gems as collectibles, and IRS Topic 409 states that long-term gains on collectibles are taxed at a maximum rate of 28%. Losses on property held for personal use, such as jewelry that was worn, are generally not deductible. Records of the original purchase price help determine whether a gain exists, and a tax professional can confirm how the rules apply to a specific sale.

How to Keep a Gold Bracelet in Good Condition

Condition does not change melt value but does affect resale value. Gold bracelets are cleaned with warm water and mild dish soap, and hollow bracelets are wiped with a damp cloth instead of being soaked; the full method is in how to clean a gold chain. Bracelets set with diamonds are cleaned using the method in how to clean a diamond ring. Removing bracelets before swimming in chlorinated pools and using bleach-based cleaners protects the alloy, and storing each bracelet separately prevents scratches and tangles.

If a gold bracelet causes itching or a rash, the alloy may contain nickel, which is sometimes present in white gold. The American Academy of Dermatology lists nickel among the most common causes of skin reactions to jewelry.

Related guides cover other pieces and metals. The same gold-value calculation applies to rings, explained in how much a 14K gold ring is worth and how much a 14K gold wedding ring is worth. Sterling silver bracelets are valued and cared for differently, as described in what is a silver bracelet. Bangle sizing is covered in how to measure bangle size, men’s bracelet styles in do men wear bracelets, and welded, clasp-free bracelets in what is permanent jewelry. Gold earrings follow the same karat rules, as explained in what are post earrings, and diamond studs are cleaned using the steps in how to clean diamond earrings.
